Acoustic Night at the Hove Club
The Sussex Kings of Harmony were at the Hove Club this evening as part of an evening of acoustic music organised by the club. Part of a bill that included acts from ukele and harmonica performers and an acoustic 80's band, the Kings performed two sets from their repertoire to an enthusiastic audience in what was the first event of its kind at the club.

Liz Garnett workshop a huge success
Members from both club choruses were in perfect harmony this weekend for a workshop run by visiting musicologist Dr Liz Garnett. In a fun-packed day on the theme of 'the listening chorus'.  The morning was devoted to developing (and listening to) the combined chorus, with the afternoon affording the opportunity for Liz to work with each chorus individually whilst the other chorus listened in. No surprise that by the end of the day the chorus felt - and sounded - like it was working together so much better.
All in all, a fabulous day of music and a reminder why we all love this hobby!

Harmonisers & Friends deliver joyful Christmas Concert in Burgess Hill
Both club choruses, plus guests that had been attending rehearsals as part of the 'Sing with us at Christmas' programme, were in St John's Church in Burgess Hill this evening for the annual carol concert. Singing in front of a packed church, the performance included carols, festive songs, readings and gave the audience plenty of opportunity to sing along.
Happy, smiling faces all round and the perfect way to celebrate Christmas!

    Sparkling Entertainment at Ridgeview Estate
Over to the Ridgeview Winery in Ditchling this evening where a small group of men from the Sussex Kings of Harmony were on hand to provide the musical accompaniment to the opening of the Rows and Vine Restaurant.  Festive cheer all round and the opportunity to sample this year's sparking wine - named Bloomsbury, since you ask.  Thumbs up from all the fellas - just so long as they don't expect this sort of thing after every gig...

Early festive song in Burgess Hill
A combined chorus from both Sussex KIngs of Harmony and Sussex A Cappella was at Woodlands Meed School in Burgess Hill this weekend to support the Kangafriends Festive Fair.  The Sussex KIngs rehearse in Woodland Meed College (every Tuesday night at 7:30pm gents, if you wanted to pop along...) , so we were more than happy to support this event and add some Christmas musicality to what turned out to be a very busy event.  Sandwiched between a hall full of stalls/activity and an inflatable snow globe full of bouncing children, this was never going to be an easy gig but the chorus coped admirably and delivered plenty of festive cheer to the event. Too early for carols in November?  Bah humbug.

    Barbershop Rocks in Haywards Heath
The KIngs of Harmony were in action on Saturday 29th July as part of the Cuckfield, Lindfield & Haywards Heath Rotary event - Rotary Rocks.
Not the type of event you might expect to see a barbershop chorus and being sandwiched between Elton John and Alanis Morissette tribute acts as we were, there was some nervousness over how we might be received.  Thankfully, the audience were there to listen to music, which we gave them in our unique unaccompanied, unamplifed style.  This was the first Rotary Rocks event and based on its success we think it will become an annual fixture in the Orchards calendar.

May 2023 - Men's chorus competes at national barbershop competition
The Sussex Kings of Harmony attended this year's British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS) convention in Bournemouth and were very please with the outcome, finishing a creditable 13th with a score of 65.8% - our second highest ever! Most pleasing was the fact that, despite a smaller chorus this year, the Kings still produced a consistent and balanced sound, scoring equally well for both songs.  The guys came off stage buzzing - all the hard work had paid off.  Next year will be the 50th anniversary convention in Harrogate and we can't wait!

Successful Auction of Promises evening - May 2022
May 20th 2023 was a superb evening of fun and music for all involved held at The Woolpack in Burgess Hill.

Our Auctioneer supreme, Jon Orrell, persuaded those present to part with their hard-earned cash for multiple items, even persuading them to pay for 'Absolutely Nothing' towards the end of the evening!  Funds raised as a result from ticket sales, raffle and auction items totalled nearly £2000. A tremendous boost to our charitable efforts.

Thanks to everyone who came along, helped out or performed to entertain those present. Special thanks go to Theresa Halsey who organised the entire evening with skill and style.

    Roger Pinsent - Chorus Director
Following the retirement of Mark Grindall who had been the club's overall Musical Director for the last six years, we were pleased to announce in July 2022 that Roger Pinsent had joined us as Chorus Director of Sussex Kings of Harmony.

Update*** We are now delighted to confirm that he's accepted the role of Chorus Director at Sussex A Cappella from January 2023 following Penny Homer's departure to work with choirs closer to her home in South London. We were very grateful for Penny for her dedication in travelling to rehearsals and performances throughout her tenure and coping with the rail strikes and frequent delays caused by problems on the rail network. We wish her well in her new role.
